Sodium
Everyone cuts down on carbs, fats, calories and everything else. These things do matter but few are more problematic to weight loss than sodium. Too much sodium in your diet will cause your body to hold onto water weight. In turn, you become discouraged because excess water weight prevents results from showing.
Don't you want to look in the mirror and see constant progress? You want to know that what you are doing is worth the effort and hard work.
Here’s a quick tip, keep your daily sodium allowance under 1500 mg a day. This is an excellent number for weight loss and overall health. Please check the foods that you eat from now on for the sodium amount. You will be surprised at the salt content.
I was in the frozen foods aisle at the grocery store recently and decided to take a look and see how many mg of sodium were in a pizza puff. I was shocked when it said 1100 mg! That's almost the total salt allowance for the day in just one pizza puff.
In my experience with weight loss, salt is just as important as calories, if not a little more detrimental. Let me explain, your body has a chance to utilize excess calories throughout the day but the way your body deals with salt is to hold onto water to compensate for the additional salt intake. You can still watch the scale drop if you eat 500 calories over your limit but if you eat 500 mg of sodium over your limit and your weight won't budge.
Be aware of the sodium in everything you eat, even salad dressing and other condiments.
The salt adds up!
Don’t Get Overwhelmed
View your weight loss in 5 pound increments.
Even if you have 300 pounds to lose, in your mind, focus on 5 pounds at a time. Once the 5 pound marker has been reached, it is time for the next 5 pounds.
Have you ever had so much to do that you sat and did nothing? I can literally think of times that I had to run errands, clean up the house, wash clothes, go over a family members house and a slew of other activities. I had so much to do that I did not know where to start, that is if I didn’t put them off to another day.
The same thing occurs in weight loss. People get overwhelmed by the amount of effort they feel losing weight takes also, the number of pounds the person has to lose can consume them.
Don’t fall into that trap!
Remember, it’s 5 pounds at a time. Accomplish it. Next 5 pounds. In that order.
Before you know it, you will have lost all the weight you desired to.
